Art at Bourne Alliance

“Every child is an artist” – Pablo Picasso

Art is a subject that allows all children of all abilities and age to show their creativity and to express their feelings and ideas in an inventive and inspiring manner.

To achieve this, they are able to experiment, discover and explore a wide range of mediums across their primary school journey with increasing confidence, allowing the children to appreciate art and build on their artistic skills each year. Here at Bourne Alliance    we ensure that Art is enjoyed by all and we use it to celebrate key events and dates across the year. We ensure that art is seen as a process, where the children have time to practise the skills, produce their masterpiece and then evaluate their work.

Throughout their school years, they will be taught about (and inspired by) a variety of different artists across all periods of history and will be able to recreate their own versions or art, which is stimulated from the original.

“Art has the role in education of helping children become like themselves instead of more like everyone else.” – Sydney Gurewitz Clemens

We encourage an increasing appreciation for art through our discovery topics, allowing children to represent their knowledge in an imaginative and innovative way. This shines through our pupils and it gives them the opportunity to display and produce their work with confidence and pride.

DT at Bourne Alliance

At Bourne Alliance, Design and Technology is an inspiring and practical subject that the   children love to be engaged in. It is a subject that allows all children to build up their    knowledge of many skills, as well as developing their understanding in the importance of the designing and evaluating process. The subject gives them a unique learning opportunity where they can experiment, discover and be creative with their own ideas. We aim to give the children an understanding on how technology works in their own lives.

Our curriculum for Design and Technology ensures that the pupils:

  • Research, design and make products, prototypes using a variety of different materials that meet specific requirements.
  • Select and use a range of tools and equipment to perform practical tasks safely.
  • Have an understanding of cooking and nutrition. To experience using basic utensils when cooking food as well as building up knowledge of a healthy diet.
  • Are engaged in textile and mechanical tasks.
  • Gain a knowledge of designers that is linked to the pupil’s work

Design and technology is taught through our Discovery topics and during our  Forest School Sessions,    which gives the children the opportunity to demonstrate practically the knowledge of what they have learnt and to display and produce this in their work with confidence.
